When I install vista via XP it gets through it ok but then it bums out after its done Expanding files, and gives this error:

But during installation it errors out at 93% during "Expanding files." Windows cannot install the required fiels. Make sure all files required for installation are available, Error code: 0x80070020 I've seen this error in some forums, but mostly having to do with windows updates, not Vista installations.

Read in another post that you can ony do a clean install with I ruled that out because I mounted a friend's ISO into daemon tools and received the same exact error, failure at Expanding Files at 21%.

am upgrading from Windows XP (SP2) to Vista Business Edition. During upgrade process at Expanding files stage I am getting this error “Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation”. There is no Hardware issues.

got the same error again on restart. I've read before the first guide that you posted and I feel like I've done exactly what it says to do. One strange thing I've noticed is during install it acts like it already has all of the install files ready. It goes to the "expanding files" stage after only a few seconds.
